Sunflower Glory
Sunflower, Kansas City Community Gardens, Kansas City
Last weekend, as I was leaving the Lakeside Nature Center on E. Gregory, I saw a big sign for the Kansas City Community Gardens. Thinking it might be a nice photo op--not to mention that I like gardens!--I thought I'd do a drive by.
Little did I know that this huge flower and vegetable garden space was there, just on the southwest side of Swope Park. KCCC is an organization that helps low-income Kansas Citians learn about gardening and growing fruits and vegetables. Members rent a plot and are given seeds and instruction to grow their own harvests of everything from beans to broccoli.

The loveliest thing!!! I adore sunflowers. Great shot.
Cheers from Boston (where we only see sunflowers in flower shops and some markets.)
Your photo makes me smile. The sunflower is so bright and cheerful and makes a great statement about the power of flowers!!
The classic Kansas sunflower (and, I suppose, western Missouri, too). Top quality macro work. Since my wife is a Kansas girl this is a happy symbol for us.
