Fruitful Weekend

Waldo Oiseau's Back Deck, Kansas City

This summer is our very first try at vegetables of any kind ... and we're going with potted heirloom tomatoes.

We purchased them as little babes at the downtown Farmer's Market and after what felt like month and months of waiting, the little plants began to bloom and are now growing tomatoes. This little one is sending you a strange and funny smile to start you off on an excellent weekend!

10 Shout-outs to Waldo Oiseau:

I suppose we have gone through a ton of tomato plants and seeds over the 52 years we have been married. Usually we plant too many plants or too many seeds and have way too many tomatoes to eat. This year I bought two Better Boy plants and kind of hid them behind some flowers. We have been in a drought for most of this summer and I have had to water. Well, the tomato plants are growing but they are only about half their normal size. Which is OK and they are still good eating. The two plants keep us supplied all summer or have so far. And I noticed a while ago that the bunch of green ones on this one plant are about normal size. We got on 1" rain about ten days ago and the plants seem to have responded.

Nice blog you have. I have seen all sorts of dents and curves on tomatoes but none quite like this one you have shown us. I like it and would look at it from time to see and see if their is a face in there. You might end up making a fortune selling it on E-Bay.

And I wanted to thank you for visiting and making a comment on my 100th post which was achieved some time ago. You must have been in the Archive.

Thanks again.

It is a funny & sleepy face, isn't it?

I'll be sure to post a photo of it when it is ripe ... assuming the greedy lil' squirrels don't get to it first!

Abe, I'm so excited to start growing vegetables! I'm going to send you an email to ask you a few questions about your tomato-growing experiences over the years.

Thanks for the comments! Glad to see that veggies are SO popular. :)
