A Woman's Work is Never Done

55th & Ward Parkway, Kansas City

The woman's billboard in the middle says, "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." [Gandhi]

My friend, Nan, sent me a clipping of a quote with a note attached, asking, "Interesting quote. Think it applies today?" ....

Naturally, the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger. It works the same in every country."
-- Hermann Goering, Nazi Reichsmarshall and Luftwaffe-Chief,
Nuremberg, 1946

That's sick. To see people protesting a war for the common good to liberate the Iraqians. The protesters wears signs on how many soldiers died in the war but lets talk about how many people died from drunk drivers or how 91,000 babies died in Florida from abortions. People are mis-informed about the truth.

Thanks for you comment. I agree that people are often misinformed. I think it's wonderful that we live in a country that allows us to share and openly communicate our ideas with each other. Thanks for stopping by.

I think the comment is still true. Did they ever find those weapons of mass destruction? You know...the ones Iraq used to attack the United States?

If you really want the war to end why don't you gather your friends around and have a prayer rally. All Things are possible with God. It helps if you are committed to Him.

It's kinda funny your friends have been protesting for 6 years and the war is still going on.

"All things are possible with God." I like that. Nice way to start off the day, and truly a positive thought to share.

Ann, I agree on the comment, too.

Ann, there still looking for them. It's buried in the sand ......somewhere.

Oh Ann, see what happened in England. Bring the troops home and it'll happen here in the US.
Were you against the Civil War and all the wars that followed?

Considering that Ann lives in Jamaica, she's probably got more enjoyable things to do, like go to the beach (!!) and be all about One Love.

Gandhi took that saying and re-arrange the words from the Bible.

The USA needs a military base in Iraq and there's a war between good and evil going on right now.

paintman, my perception is that Gandhi and Jesus were pretty much on the same page. If you look at the Old Testament, yes, the whole "Eye for eye" concept was pretty clear that for whatever you lost (whether property, eye, etc) it should be repaid for in like. The prophet Jesus changed things when he came along. In the New Testament, he even says, Hey, look, I know you've all heard this whole eye for eye thing, but I'm here to tell you that it's not the way to peace. If someone strikes you on one cheek, give him the other.

In my opinion, I don't think he's saying be a coward (and Gandhi was also very much against cowardice), but that violent agression because you've been wronged does not necessarily bring about peace or justice.
