Prospero's Books Will Light You Up

In the Stacks, Prospero's, 39th & Bell, KCMO

Prospero's, located in Kansas City's '39th Street West' neighborhood, has been selling and trading used and hard-to-find books for over 10 years. A cozy place, Prospero's hosts poetry & spoken word open-mic nights, & live singer/songwriter gigs.

The shop gained some national attention when it held a book burning this past May. Prospero's wanted to shed some light on the fact that fewer & fewer people are reading for pleasure these days. It's also nearly impossible to get libraries & many charities to accept book donations.

The next Book Burning is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 2, at 4:00p (39th & Bell, KCMO).

Looking for a particular book? Before heading to your nearest B&N, see if Prospero's has a copy!!

Great photo of a lovely place, too bad the story behind this post is so sad... And I don't see how this problem can be fixed. :(

This bookstore looks an agreeable and inviting place! It's amazing that sculpture(?) made with a pile of books. But it's really sad to see the story of "Burns Books to Protest Decline in Reading"...

Fénix send me your link and I am glad she did. I will come back soon.

What a nice shot! I still enjoy reading a lot so carry a book with me wherever I go. But I also have to admit surfing the Internet and blogging have taken some part of my time for reading.

That's a great photo. And that's a place where I could spend days.
