How do YOU celebrate your big day?
Yesterday was my 33rd birthday! My dear friend, Nan, says that "3" is her lucky number ... she believes this means I will have a great year!
How do you celebrate your birthday where you live?
When it comes to birthdays, I have a few policies. One is that you should never work on your birthday, and another is that you should do things you enjoy!
So, how did I celebrate? I woke up to some lovely flowers, made some local Roasterie coffee, and sat on the back deck reading the Sept 2007 issue of Vogue. Apparently, a cape is a must have for this Fall. A bit later, I had breakfast at You Say Tomato with my friend, Suzanne, and her very well-behaved baby, Benjamin.

Post-breakfast, like a good City Daily Photographer (ha ha), I drove around downtown and the West Side taking photos. Of course, this required a stop in at Christopher Elbow Chocolates!
In the afternoon, I drove out west to Lenexa, KS, and purchased some hostas from Jim Soper's Hosta Garden (I even got one free for my birthday!). I rounded out the evening with dinner at Carmen's Cafe in Brookside. I subsequently suffered from a delicious butter/cream-induced coma. It's gonna be a good year!

Happy Birthday! Hope it's great!!!!!
Happy Birthday! Looks like you have a great day :)
I've a policy too - the first thought on the big day has to be the most positive thought. Yeah somehow I strongly believe in this :)
Happy birthday Cathy. You look so happy.
Since you ask, I personally quit celebrating birthdays; aging is bad for your health...
Our birthdays are close but the years are certainly different!! You have some good admirers! 9/11 put a pall on my day for several years, but this year I decided to celebrate anyway. My blog explains it. Normally we have birthday weeks--the celebration continues in small ways for days, after the initial birthday brunch.
Great pictures - you are so pretty! Happy Birthday and may this be your best year yet! :)
Happy Birthday. When it's our birthday turn we take out who ever it is and they get to pick the restaurant they want to go to. Everyone usually gets one or two special gifts too.
bonne anniversaire...
amicizia...
Thanks for the birthday greetings!
Eric: What?! I think birthdays become more important with each passing year. Quelle domage that you don't celebrate.
Kristine: *blush* You're pretty too. :) I hope 33 will be a good year!
Kate: I love the idea of a "birthday week"! Brilliant idea. I love hearing how other people celebrate the big day.
We each get just one day each year that is OUR special day .. and it should be celebrated! ... in my humble opinion. :)
I've got similar thoughts to Eric. My birthdays get less and less important as the years go by. It must be a man thing.
I have a friend who usually gets around 78 cards for her birthday. I'm lucky to get 6.
Best wishes for your special day.
Several years ago I declared at my age...I could have a birthday month. Works for me!
Happy Birthday! I really enjoy your blog (and photos and hostas and CHOCOLATE!)
Happy Birthday to you!
I am like Eric, I quit celebrating!
Igor
happy birthday !!
I always celebrate birthday with family and friends ;-)
Happy birthday.
I like having good food, but it's not only for birthday.
A late happy birthday!- I've been away and couldn't leave comments. I like to celebrate with a friend - it must include champagne and good food to eat, good conversation and hopefully a hug.
Congratulations on your birthday.
I love the idea of a birthday week too.
We usually visit the temple in the morning and give alms to the poor.In the evening, we go out for dinner with family and friends and receive gifts.
After Krrish has come, I celebrated his 2nd birthday week this July. day 1 for toy shopping, day 2 to Mc Donalds, day 3 shopping for birthday clothes and new shoes,
day 4 new school bag, water bottle and lunchbox, day 5 cake order and part prep, day 6 birthday party at granny's, and on his birthday, birthday party at home, school and at the orphanage with the children there. Isn't that great?
Congrats on the anniversary of your birth. BTW the new site is up!! Thanks again for all your help. I could have don it with out your help. YOUR THE BEST!!!
What? What's up with not celebrating your birthday!?
Anu, I love your big celebration for the little one and spreading it out with something special each day! Also, giving to others is a great way to celebrate the passage of another year in one's life ... and that it is a blessing to be able to give to someone else.
The D, ... I am so looking forward to my gift certificates for all my hard work! :)
Happy Birthday!
You are also another September baby like me! :-)
we chose a restuarant we have never ate at.
Have a lovely birthday! My birthday's usually involve getting home made cards from my kids and I swear I have saved every one (they are 21 and 19 now!) And then it's all about the food at either an old favourite or new trendy resto. My best birthday ever was when I turned 50 and my hubby surprised me with a trip to Paris. He gave me 1- week's notice and we arrived the morning of my big day.
I hope your's is lovely and filled with love.
That's the most important thing.
Blessings.
Happy Birthday!
I agree that you shouldn't work on your birthday (although in some businesses, that's a little difficult!) and that you should do the things you enjoy! And, that's what I usually do on my birthday! I usually spend the day wandering to places I love to visit (bookstores, shops, etc.), have lunch with a friend, and then go out to dinner with my husband. He usually takes me to a place we've never been.
Best wishes for many more!
