Portrait #1
Sarah, Charter Bus Driver & Grandmother of Three
A few years ago, Sarah retired from being a schoolbus driver. She said she didn't see much use in sitting around the house, so in retirement she's become a charter bus driver. This summer, she is driving a bus from Kansas City to San Francisco by herself. Once she arrives in San Francisco, she'll be driving a camping group down the California coast for a month.

I met Sarah while I was in St. Louis a few weekends back for the First Robotics Regional Competition. She was the local KC bus driver for the team to and from St. Louis.
On the second day of the competition, I decided to take a little break from arena activity and drive down the road to see St. Charles, Mo. It didn't seem like there was much to St. Charles except for the Mississippi River that lazily flowed by and an exceedingly quaint old town, cobblestone street and all!
Sarah and I walked around while I took photos. I asked her to pose for me--just one photo, please, I said--, and while she was shy about it, she agreed.

7 Shout-outs to Waldo Oiseau:
Doesn't do anything for me.
thats nice.cant believe its just an year since u started photography.
Oh, I wish she wasn't so shy! I'd like to see her eyes. You tell a great story.
St. Charles in on the Missouri River, not that the Missouri and Mississippi look much different. Downtown St. Charles is old by our standards and cutsie-poo. Did you know it was the first capital of Missouri? IMHO, most of the rest of St. Charles and St. Charles County is a vast suburban wasteland. It a way, it's where white people fled from St. Louis, looking for new and cheaper housing. I think it now has the 3rd largest county population in the state, after St. Louis and Jackson. One soulless subdivision and strip mall after another. That's my two cents worth.
strangetastes, I suspected it was the Missouri, and then was too lazy to double-check!
Ah, I must agree about having the same impression of the rest of St. Charles. Asphalt as far as the eye could see.
Really nice portrait. She has an interesting face, though she posed sideways.
A very nice portrait!
