Tulips on Troost
If you get a chance within the week or so, take a leisurely drive down Troost Ave., in Kansas City, Mo. "Tulips On Troost" aims to change the face of Troost Avenue by planting one million tulips along the Avenue by Spring of 2010.
Long considered the "boundary" between the "safe" and "unsafe" part of our urban core, Troost Ave has a reputation ... a negative one at that.
If you live in the Kansas City area, check it out, and also find out how you can donate or volunteer. I think adopting a tree well or small garden would be very cool!!

13 Shout-outs to Waldo Oiseau:
I live right off troost and am enjoying the show this year.
Ever been to mad jacks? I'm intrigued by it for some reason...
thowse are very pretty flouwers. you should have moved the rusty metal thing befor you takes your pickture!
I haven't eaten at Mad Jack's. However, I think it's just a sign. I think that building is a China Feast.
I love the perspective of this shot -- the bright, fresh tulips against the rusty fire hydrant, and the SKY.
Nice shot of those tulips on the street curb.
nice pic
No, China Feast is next door. I'll do a "dare" and eat at Mad Jack's if someone offers to join me for lunch there sometime!
yeah Mad Jacks is actually a new-ish business (w/in the last year). It replaced something else. I fully expect fried fish on the menu because of the sign.
Heck, I'm up for that. Pick a day, Dan. Our Lunch Guy will need to join us, obviously, for menu review purposes!
Very nice. I love the colors.
I think it may have been a chinese or chicken place but then it was all fixed up and became a bbq place that didn't last very long....
I could not want for Mad Jacks on Troost to open. The location was previously Ribs and Things that was not there very long. I bought fish there when it opened. It is good. The man sometimes at the window was very rude so I do not expect to get anymore fish from them. There are some nice workers there but this big nosed square headed guy seem like we have to by from him. Go to Luftis new location at 63rd of Paseo on the Landing mall. They have a buffet. The workers nor the owners are a snotty as he is.
I would not let one person keep me from getting what I want. Since the food is good, I can always not let the other person wait on me. I have eaten there several times and found the service to be Excellent. I've even brought friends from as far away as Baton Rouge there and they know fish and seafood! Give them another try or not.
