Spring Has Sprung
Personally, I think this has been a fantastic spring. While some thought the weather to be a bit chilly, I never complained because I know how easy it is to forget the beastly weather of Midwestern summers ... with sweat drippin' down your back for no good reason!
Also, I am very excited about the development of my native gardening efforts. It's either going to look great or will look like drunk clowns walked through with buckets of garish-colored paint. (According to HGTV, one is supposed to plant complementary-colored plants next to each other. What?!?)
All this said, native gardening is VERY COOL, and it's good for our Midwestern environment. So stop planting all those darn exotics and look for awesome plants like cosmos (above), black-eyed susans, obedient plant, coneflowers, and more.
ps, the image above will likely be posted at the Little Bird Emporium in the near future. I captured this shot of a cosmo by using my digital camera and an old disassembled kodak duaflex lens.

3 Shout-outs to Waldo Oiseau:
Wow! It looks like a flag and feels like an anthem.
A never heard of a flower named cosmos. I thought that was the province of Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking. This is a very rick, vivid image.
Who would have believed? I spent several hours at a nursery looking for this plant. And never found it because I could not remember the name. Now I come to your blog and there it is, cosmo or cosmos. I love them and so do honey bees, and bumblebees. Now I will be able to get some again. Thanks to your post. I will have a photo of one from last year with a macro shot of a honey bee on it.
This is simple and lovely. I like the framing and the combination of colors. Focus is great too!
