A Skip & a Jump to Local Wildlife

Quivera National Wildlife Refuge

The Quivera National Wildlife Refuge may sound like something out of Africa, but it's just a 5-hour drive from Kansas City. While I wasn't aware that there are "Eight Wonders of Kansas," apparently the Quivera NWR is one of them.

The Refuge is home to a wide variety of birds and mammals, has two salt marshes, and offers several educational programs. Spring and Fall are good times to visit since that's when migrating birds pass through.
